Mitochondrial-derived peptide. Investigated for metabolic regulation and exercise-mimetic pathways.
01 · Overview
MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA — one of the first characterized mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs). Its discovery in 2015 opened a line of research into peptides transcribed from mitochondrial DNA.
Published work has identified roles in AMPK signaling, insulin sensitivity, and metabolic regulation, with mouse-model data showing exercise-mimetic effects and age-related decline in circulating MOTS-c levels. Alvar supplies MOTS-c as an acetate salt for biochemistry and metabolism research.
02 · Handling
